KARACHI: The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) has sealed a dental clinic owned by former president of Pakistan Arif Alvi for allegedly operating in a residential area.
The clinic located in Sindhi Muslim Cooperative Housing Society (SMCHS) was reportedly established in a residential bungalow owned by the former president.
The SBCA team, led by Assistant Director Shakeel Jamali took action against the clinic, with police providing security during the operation.
Notices were posted outside the clinic, stating that it had been sealed due to the illegal commercial use of the residential property. The SBCA said they had received complaints as the clinic was operating in a residential area.
On Friday, Dr Arif Alvi’s wife and son, Awab Alvi, have moved the Sindh High Court (SHC) against the sealing of their dental clinic.
The former president’s family filed plea for de-sealing of their dental clinic claiming it was an act of political revenge. The petitioner’s lawyer, Barrister Ali Tahir, stated that Dr Alvi is being harassed purely on political grounds.
The petition further highlighted that the dental clinic has been operational for many years, and no prior notice was given before sealing.
The SBCA’s action follows months of complaints. Many residents claimed that previous complaints had been ignored due to Alvi’s influential position.
